The Board of Park Commissioners, appointed by the Cincinnati Mayor, has the control and management of the parks and parkways of the city, and the day-to-day operations are under the management of the Park Director. The Board of Park Commissioners has regularly scheduled meetings on the third Thursday of every month, starting at 9:00am at the Park Board Administration Building at 950 Eden Park Drive. The Park Board’s budget includes funding from the City’s General, Capital Improvement and Infrastructure Funds, program and facility fees and charges, a Citywide street tree assessment, investments from private endowments, and Federal State and private grants.

The Director’s Office works with the Board of Park Commissioners to set and implement policies and work programs of Cincinnati Parks and management of approximately 125 employees.

Wade Walcutt, a graduate of Ohio University serves as Director of the Cincinnati Park Board. In this role he is responsible for the oversight of the 5,000 acre-plus, award winning system containing some of the best professionals, programs, parks, gardens, trails and facilities in the country.

Prior to joining the Park Board, Wade most recently served as the Director of the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department in North Carolina, where he was recognized as one of their 40 leaders under 40. During this time, Wade successfully coordinated and led the City’s effort on the presentation and passage of the Parks and Recreation Bond package of $34.5M with a 72% approval rating. Wade has served in several other leadership roles with the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, National Audubon Society in Columbus, OH and helped secure the National Gold Medal Award as a manager with the Westerville Parks and Recreation Department in Westerville, OH.

Wade has been recognized as a parks industry leader and education presenter at the state and national level for parks and recreation agencies, engaging with participants on: Leadership and Management; Introducing Organizational Change; Interpersonal Communication; and Personal and Professional Development.

He also serves on the Board of Regents as an instructor for the National Supervisors Management School, sponsored by NC State and the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA). This two-year, curriculum based school is dedicated to improving the management and leadership skills of the country’s mid-level Parks and Recreation managers.

As Parks Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Parks Deputy Director provides the oversight, planning, and management of the Park Board and assists the Parks Director in providing leadership and management to three divisions comprising over Planning and Design, Operations and Natural Resources, and Riverfront Parks, Special Events and Central Business District.

The Division of Planning, Design and Facilities provides design, planning, engineering and landscape architecture. The division maintains 130 park structures, plans and designs new and enhanced parks, plans infrastructure and landscape projects, and provides support for special projects.

The Division of Business Services manages the Cincinnati Parks communications and public relations efforts, website, social media, graphic design services, centralized business efficiency and operations, and oversees guest experience, customer service and reservation of park facilities.

The Division of Operations provides the maintenance and beautification of parklands, and manages parks’ natural resources including meadowlands and management of Park’s vehicles and equipment. The Division is also responsible for the planting and maintenance of approximately 1,000 miles of City street trees and management of Interstate highway greenspace within the City in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation.


The Division of Operations provides the maintenance and beautification of parklands throughout the Central District and along the Riverfront. This Division is also responsible for managing and coordinating Special Events for the department.
